On
February 17, 2001, the sounds of romantic salsa rang out and affected the whole
arena at Madison Square Garden. The concert, organized by RMM Records and
Prestigio Recordings, was a celebration of Valentine's Day. The stadium at the
Garden was packed with people, many of them couples, who wanted to hear the
invited artists sing romantic salsa
songs. The night started with Pedro
Jesus, who was accompanied by Isidro
Infante and the RMM Orchestra. The RMM Orchestra, directed by Isidro,
accompanied the invited salsersos the
whole evening. Following Pedro Jesus, salsero Charlie Cruz sang "Amarte Es Un Problema". Charlie
was the first of the invited singers to inspire the crowd with romance. Mickey
Taveras, singing his hit, "Mi Historia Entre Tus Dedos",
was the next to perform and romanticize the crowd.
Next, Prestigio Recording artists' Dominic
and George Lamond, performed.
Dominic electrified the audience with "Lloran Las Rosas" and
George brought down the house with his song "Juareré Quererte".
He danced vigorously around the stage with his back-up singers and gave off an
energy that made the audience want to sing and dance. Kevin Ceballo performed next.
This was an
important night for Kevin. On February 8, 2001, Kevin won the award for "Revelación
del Año" at the Premio Lo
Nuestro awards. At the concert, RMM Records honored Kevin for receiving the
award and naming him Latin Music's New Artist of the Year. RMM presented him
with an award on stage and an emotional Kevin accepted the award and thanked all
who had helped him. With tears in his eyes, he gave special thanks to someone he
considers a father, someone extremely important to him - Isidro Infante. He
thanked Isidro for believing in him and giving him the opportunity to do
something he truly loves. Kevin also thanked the audience and his fans for all
their support. The concert reached its climax with Kevin. George's performance
electrified the crowd and left them ready to receive that night. He sang with
his whole heart his hit "Mi Primer Amor". The moved and
electrically charged audience sang and danced along with him.
After Kevin's emotional performance, the crowd received with open arms the
romantic Cuban Salsero, Rey Ruiz. Rey
kept the audience in that same emotionally charged mood. The night continued to
be filled with salsa. Grupo Niche
followed with a great performance. Tito Rojas was the next salsero who literally brought down the house
at Madison Square Garden with his hit songs. The crowd went wild when he walked
across the stage displaying the Puerto Rican Flag.
After
Tito's show, there was a change in genre. The merengue singer, Toño
Rosario, ended the night singing his merengue hits. The crowd was so wired
and energized that they literally jumped out of their seats and danced and sang
to Toño's songs. By the mood of the crowd, there was no denying that they were
satisfied with the show and the artists that had emotionally charged the
evening.
