COOL
MOVES AND IMAGINATIVE IDEAS IN DANCE
By Barb Bernstein, Director of
DanceInTime.com
BarbBtalks@aol.com
On August 21,
2005, the Miami Salsa Congress, produced by Rene Gueits of Salsa Lovers
Dance Studio, undertook to break the world record for the size of a Rueda
circle. They did this as a highlight to their Congress, and they
succeeded in breaking the record!

Aaaahhh…. The Things I’ve Learned…
A Few Words of Wisdom, From Edie, The Salsa FREAK p;As
a follower, if you want your partnership to withstand the transition, just
remember the words of my mother,
“Your patience
is your wisdom”.
As the private lesson came to a close, I asked the couple to
hold hands, look into each other’s eyes, and repeat after me the following
solemn promise: “I promise…. to never complain… whine…
clear my throat… gripe… give dirty looks… about your dancing… while
social dancing at a nightclub… when we are out having fun…“ Those
words brought tears to both their eyes. It put a lump in my throat
too.

What
do you do when your dance partner is your significant other, and you both
screw up your routine on stage?
More Words of Wisdom, From Edie, The Salsa FREAK The
first natural impulse is to blurt out the word
“YOU…” before all the other words that come vomiting out of your
mouth. “What happened???” is another
good one that always starts the fire ablaze.
“WHAT WERE Y0U THINKING???” is priceless.
That will leave the both of you sleeping on the seam of the mattress for a
couple nights. “What the $#@&… went wrong…“
among all the other profanities human kind has made up over the centuries is
a sure-fired way to divorce court… Yup, I’ve just about seen it, and been
through it all. Surviving and withstanding a partnership with your
significant other is one of the toughest things you can put your
relationship through.

Dance
Partner Tips
Even MORE
Words of Wisdom, From Edie, The Salsa FREAK
Dear Edie, My dance partner is an accomplished, professional dance
instructor. He / she is also my spouse/significant other. When
he/she teaches others how to dance, he/she is very patient and kind, even
loving and thoughtful. But when it comes to working and training ME,
they turn into an evil, unkind, unsightly, impatient, @$$#!
Why is that? Complacency and comfort in your relationship is normal.
You’re both fabulous under the sheets, so expectations outside of the sheets
soar through the roof. Teaching our significant others to do ANYTHING
outside of sex is virtually impossible....

The
Magic of the UK Salsa Congress
By Edie, The Salsa FREAK
There’s something magical about the UK Salsa Congress. I don’t know
whether it’s the fun-loving British spirit that promoters Paul and
Imogen Young bring to the table,
or whether it’s just that “good ‘ole Brit humor” that does it for me.
Probably both. Edie Challenges the Brits to develop their own Salsa
Style... .

(Besides, how bad can a movie with Jennifer Lopez and Richard Gere be?!)
by Barbara Bernstein n
You don't have to be an avid Salsa dancer to
understand that many people find dancing joyful. Watch any movie
or TV show in which the characters do an impromptu dance together.
It's generally accompanied by a sense of excitement and laughter ...

A
Winning Dance Recipe
By Mike and Sharon
You've gone to a Salsa congress, you've gone to a few local competitions
and shows. And you're thinking, "Hmmm, I can do that.." Well Virginia,
easier said than done. But, if the difficult takes time and the
impossible takes a little longer, with a little organization and
persistence, you can compete too.

This must be the longest
it’s taken me yet to ‘do my thang’ and report on my travels, but here is
finally a bit of Caribbean summer sun to brighten up the grey Irish
February weather. Probably many of you know I was in Cuba for 3
weeks last summer. I had a ball. So if you’re
wondering how the above contents could possibly have anything to do with
Cuba,
